The new Mars Meteorite boxes measure 3 1/4 inch by 2 1/4 inches and contain a sizeable piece of Martian Meteorite NWA 6963. Typically around 70mg.
Martian meteorites are one of the rarest materials to find on Earth
The doner meteorite was called NWA 6963, which weighed 8kg and is classified as a Shergottite. It was found in the Sahara, North West Africa in 2011. It is a piece of rock that was blasted off the Martian surface in a meteorite impact thousands of years ago, which then travelled around the solar system until falling to Earth in the Sahara sometime before 2011.
